PETALING JAYA: Singapore hitman Noh Alam Shah is back.
The 28-year-old former Tampines Rovers striker, whose seven-month worldwide ban ends on Wednesday, is expected to see Malaysia Cup action with Police next week.
Police coach K. Thaiyanathan confirmed that Noh Alam trained with the team yesterday.
“The management will make a decision soon,” said Thaiyanathan.
Police, however, will have to drop one of the three foreign players in their stable to accommodate Noh Alam. This is because the FA of Malaysia’s (FAM) competition rules allow each team to register only three foreign players.
The three imports in the Police team currently are Kenyans Hillary Echesa and Michael Barasa and Singapore’s Nigeria-born Agu Casmir.
Police, making their debut in the top flight Super League, had signed up Noh Alam at the beginning of the season in January.
The FA of Singapore (FAS) slapped Noh Alam with a one-year ban from their domestic competition in December for violent conduct during last November’s Singapore Cup final.
Noh Alam had kneed Singapore Armed Forces’ Daniel Bennett in the head and kicked the player in the back.
The player’s hopes of a playing for Police were dashed when FIFA confirmed that it was a global sanction.
The ban was later reduced to seven months after appeal.
His presence should add more bite to the Police team, who are making a strong impression in the Malaysia Cup competition. They lead Group B with 11 points from three wins and two draws.
The cops are on course for a place in the quarter-finals with five more matches to play.
Police have a tough match against defending champions Kedah at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium tomorrow before Noh Alam makes his return in their away game against Johor FC on July 9.
